A new workout studio called Live Fit is set to open at the former Candy Bar next month.

Owner and Astoria resident Danielle McAlpine has started renovation work at the studio, located at 19-31 Ditmars Blvd. She said Live Fit will offer both classes and one-on-one training.

Classes for about 10 people will include interval training, suspension training, Pilates and total-body “boot camps.”  McAlpine is designing the schedule to fit around peoples’ workdays, with classes in the early mornings and evenings.

During the day, Live Fit will offer by-appointment sessions with personal trainers.

McAlpine said she was drawn to the location because of its access to Manhattan and proximity to Astoria Park.

“If people are working in the city and they come back here, it’s very convenient for people in this neighborhood to come and stop in for a class,” she said. “I also saw the opportunity for when the weather gets nice again… we can utilize the park for some of our boot camp classes.”

“I really loved the neighborhood – I fell in love with in when I moved here coming from Long Island,” she added.

Single classes will cost $25, and a monthly package will cost $180. All rates are listed online here.

McAlpine said she is aiming to open in mid-November.

The Candy Bar closed this summer citing the mediocre economy and off-the-beaten-path location.

These small fitness studios with smaller personalized classes seem to do well but a lot depends on getting instructors with the right combination of knowledge and personality.

Best of luck.
