Freddy at new location

The King of Falafel & Shawarma food truck will park at a new, temporary location on 31st Street, starting today.
The popular food truck had to move from its spot on Broadway and 30th Street, due to construction work at the neighboring C-Town, owner Freddy Zeideia said. Customers can now find the King of Falafel at 31st Street just north of Broadway, on either side of the street depending on space availability.
Zeideia said he expects to occupy this location for “three or four months.”
Developers are building an additional four floors over the C-Town property to hold 64 apartments. Workers were on site Wednesday morning, and a fence has been put up along the property’s Broadway edge.
Zeideia said the 31st Street location is “good,” but noted that after years on Broadway, “people are used to our location. Their feet walk to it.”
New truck location
Meanwhile, King of Falafel is moving forward with its renovation of 30-15 Broadway, where it will be opening a brick and mortar restaurant.
Zeideia said he expects that restaurant to be open around Thanksgiving.
He said the restaurant team is in the “final touches” of design, which will ultimately include features such as a truck hood at the entrance. There will be seating for about 35 people and an open kitchen. To maintain a street food atmosphere, there will be counter service as opposed to wait staff, Zeideia said.
The menu will be an expanded version of what is available in the King of Falafel truck.
Additions include salads, spinach pies and sweets such as baklava. Zeideia also noted that he plans to feature dishes from different Middle Eastern cuisines on different days.
The King of Falafel food truck will continue to operate once the restaurant opens, although it will close slightly earlier, at 10 p.m. The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to midnight.
