A Citywide bubble tea chain is in gear to open a Ditmars Boulevard franchise in September.
Called ViVi, the bubble tea café will be located at 35-16 Ditmars Blvd., formerly an Allstate insurance office.
Owner/manager and Woodside resident Sandy Cheng said ViVi will offer Taiwanese-style bubble tea, a tea-based drink often served cold with chewy tapioca, pudding or jelly. The menu will include standard teas blended with milk, as well as flavors including green tea or passion fruit.
Experimental flavors may also be available for the opening, Cheng said, citing Oreo and chocolate milk as possibilities.
“I enjoy the area because there’s lot of variety of food,” Cheng said. “I thought [the Ditmars Boulevard] location was an excellent place to bring something like this, because I feel like there are people there who are willing to try different things.”
According to Cheng, the café will seat about 20 customers. There will be tables with long benches and a bar counter. Cheng is also contemplating adding a couch and coffee table-style seating at the back of the space.
A snacks menu will include chicken wings, fries and Asian-style deep fried sausage.
ViVi has numerous shops in Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and plans to expand to Chicago and Georgia, according to the company’s website.
Cheng anticipates that the Ditmars Boulevard location will open in September.

I hate it when you slurp the tea and one of the bubbles darts down your throat. Kind of scary.
