Two people attempted to rob a bodega on 34th Avenue last Monday but their efforts were thwarted by an employee, according to police.

The suspects, one a man the other a woman, entered US Brazil bodega at 41-02 34th Avenue at about 5:00 am May 18 and asked to buy a lighter. When the register was open, the male suspect reached over and attempted to steal money while telling the employee that he had a gun and would use it.

The male suspect then tried to take the entire register.

After a brief struggle, the employee was able to prevent the man from taking the register. The two suspects then fled the location in a white Fiat, heading eastbound on 34 Avenue. The employee was not injured. The suspects did not successfully remove any property.

The male suspected was described as a Hispanic, approximately 5′ 9″ tall, 160 pounds, with a light complexion and short hair. He was last seen wearing a black and red baseball hat, a long-sleeve blue shirt, tan cargo shorts and white sneakers.

Meanwhile the female was described as a Hispanic, approximately 5′ 3″ tall, 130 pounds, with a light complexion, long, brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue baseball hat, a blue short-sleeve shirt, blue checkered pants and white sneakers.
