A Brooklyn man who fatally shot Astoria resident Jagdish Missir in 2008 was sentenced to 17 years in prison today.

David Chisolm, 34, pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter last month.

The shooting occurred in Astoria on the afternoon of May 25, 2008. According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, Chisolm shot Missir, while the victim was in his van, leaving him in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the eye. Missir was transported to the hospital and died three days later.

“The defendant has now been held accountable for his violent actions which caused the untimely death of a hardworking man. The lengthy prison sentence imposed today by the court is more than warranted,” Brown said in a statement released with the sentencing announcement.

Calls to Chisolm’s attorney were not immediately answered.
