60-year-old woman raped in Astoria today, cops search for suspect

Police are searching for a man that they say raped a 60-year-old woman this afternoon.

The suspect followed the victim into her home, located near 30th Ave and 35th Street, just before 1 pm. The suspect sexually assaulted the woman and then fled the scene, according to the NYPD.

The suspect is described as a heavyset black male, bald, in his 40s, wearing a red shirt and light pants.

Police responded to the scene and the victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is still ongoing and police are asking for anyone with any information to come forward and call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).

East Elmhurst man busted for a fatal collision in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on the 4th of July: NYPD

A Queens grand jury indicted an East Elmhurst man in connection to a July 4th fatal collision at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Yersson Diaz, 27, of Ericsson Street just south of LaGuardia Airport, appeared at Queens Criminal Court for a summons on Tuesday and was taken into custody, according to an NYPD spokeswoman. He was booked Tuesday afternoon at the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst, where he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
