Deputy Insp. Stephen Cirabisi

A new commanding officer of the 114th police precinct–which covers Astoria–has been appointed, taking over the role that Deputy Inspector Stephen Cirabisi had held for 3 years.
Cirabisi, who has been assigned to the Chief of Departments Office downtown, has been credited with keeping the crime rate down in the Astoria in recent years. His departure comes as little surprise, as most commanding officers are reassigned after leading a precinct for about two to three years.
The new commanding officer for the 114th precinct is Deputy Inspector Kevin Maloney, who has been with the NYPD since 1991. He has served throughout Queens and Brooklyn during his career. He was promoted to the role of Deputy Inspector in April.
Maloney takes over during a period when the crime rate is down 12.5% from this time a year ago. The number of serious crimes–murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries and felony assaults–are all down.
