Police hopeful that they have nabbed Astoria’s groper

Oct. 25, 2013 By Christian Murray

The police have caught a suspect who they believe is responsible for one of the many gropings that have taken place in Astoria in the past two years.

The police arrested a man early Tuesday on an unrelated charge– but were able to use video footage to link him to one of the neighborhood’s many sexual attacks.

Several women have been sexually assaulted by a man on a bike who has been targeting women as they exit the train stations—typically between midnight and dawn.

Police believe they have caught the suspect and are looking to see whether he is connected to other incidents.

“These incidents have been very disturbing for a couple of years and we are hopeful that the police have caught the man responsible for them all,” said State Sen. Mike Gianaris.

Gianaris said he wanted to thank the 114th precinct for their work in nabbing the suspect.
