MTA plans to install elevator at Astoria Blvd Station

Oct.16, 2013 By Christian Murray

The MTA plans to install an elevator at the Astoria Boulevard train station by 2016, according to officials.

The MTA has proposed the installation as part of its next capital budget. However, that budget does need the approval of state lawmakers.

“Our community has been clamoring for years for more elevator service at our subway stations,” said State Sen. Mike Gianaris. “I will keep fighting to make sure the plan becomes a reality and that more of our stations get equipped with elevators.”

Should the Astoria Blvd elevator be completed, it would be the first in Astoria.

In recent months, the MTA has increased the level of service it provides Astoria residents.  N and Q train riders now receive announcements as to when the next subway will arrive—and the Q102 and Q103 buses are more frequent.

Nevertheless, “there is so much more the MTA needs to do to provide our community with adequate public transportation,” Gianaris said.
