Caffe Bene, Korean coffee giant, opens Ditmars Blvd location

CaffeBeneOct. 15, 2014 By Michael Florio

A multinational coffee chain has opened a store on Ditmars Blvd.

Caffe Bene, the Korean coffee giant with over 1,400 locations across the globe, opened its newest cafe yesterday at 31-30 Ditmars Blvd.

The café will be holding a grand opening event next Tuesday, according to a co-owner.

“The cafe has generated a lot of interest among the community ever since we started construction,” he said.

“A lot of people have come in to check us out since we opened,” he said. “It is a new concept to the area.”

In the 24 hours since it’s been open, the co-owner said that its Belgium waffles, honey bread, and sandwiches have been the most popular items on the menu.

Like all the Caffe Bene franchises, the Ditmars location serves coffee, hot and cold beverages, pastries, croissants, gelato and bubble tea.

Caffe Bene has opened several cafes in New York and New Jersey since it entered the US market in 2012, including locations at Times Square, Flushing, Sunnyside, the Fashion Institute of Technology, Fort Lee, NJ, and Palisades Park, NJ.

The coffee giant opened its first Astoria location last month at 32-14 Steinway Street..

These two Astoria openings come at a time when several independent cafés have opened in Astoria, including 60 Beans just blocks away and OK Café just around the corner from the Ditmars location.

Starbucks also recently opened its fifth Astoria location at 30-18 Astoria Blvd and has a location by Ditmars Blvd, at 22-04 31st Street.

In other news, a deli opened on Saturday in Ditmars called Tropical Deli & Grill.

The deli, located at 22-33 31st Street, serves smoothies, coffee, pastries, sandwiches, salads, paninis, juices and burgers.

The store sells traditional deli items such as fruit, candy, chips and other snack items. There are no chairs or tables to eat at the location.

One of the co-owners said they picked the location because it looks nice and is located right next to the subway.

Halletts Point esplanade in Astoria opens, reconnecting community to East River waterfront

Aug. 22, 2025 By Bill Parry

When The Durst Organization broke ground on its massive Halletts Point project in Astoria on a cold winter day in January 2016, the speeches were delivered inside a massive brick warehouse that had cut off public access to a stretch of East River waterfront for generations. That warehouse is long gone, demolished and then replaced by two high-rise residential towers, 20 and 30 Halletts Point, which launched leasing earlier this year, and a 58,000-square-foot waterfront esplanade that opened to the public this month.
