A popular Astoria restaurant has completed its expansion and is expected to open its additional space next week.

Butcher Bar, a half butcher shop/half restaurant located at 37-08 30th Ave, took over the space next door earlier this year, and is targeting next Wednesday to open the expanded venue, according to owner, Matt Katakis.

The new section will add 70 additional seats to the establishment and will include a full bar. The restaurant will now have 92 seats.

The bar will feature local spirits, although the specifics are still in the works.

The expansion began in March and Katakis is relieved that he is finally ready to open.

“I am very excited,” he said. “It’s been a long process.”

With the additional space, Katakis said he can focus on hosting dinner parties and other events. He also has long-range plans to open for brunch.

The restaurant, which is best known for its grass-fed/pastured meats, has a menu consisting of BBQ ribs, steak, chops, burgers, butcher platters and organic sides.

Katakis opened Butcher Bar, which features wooden walls and a cozy feel, in December 2011.

“We want to thank the community for supporting us and we want to keep serving them the best food possible,” he said.

Katakis also owns two other restaurants, which are located across the street.

He owns Pita Pan at 37-15 30th Ave., as well as Marketa, located at 37-17 30th Avenue.
