Nature’s Taste, a Ditmars Blvd eatery that offers food straight from the owner’s Riverhead farm, opened this evening.

The store, located at 35-07 Ditmars Blvd, sells grass-fed, hormone-free meat as well as milk and eggs fresh from owner Theo Toumazou’s farm.

The eatery will open for its first full day on Wednesday, when it will offer fresh cooked meat.

Nature’s Taste offers rotisserie style free-range chicken–with a whole chicken costing $20. Sandwiches with BBQ slow-cooked smoked meats, such as pork belly or Angus beef brisket, will start at $8. There will also be burgers.

There will also be some prepared foods for working people who want to pick something up on the way home.

Toumazou originally hoped to open in April, but electrical issues that involved getting power to the refrigerators and problems with the meat smoker delayed the process. After that, there were delays receiving the rotisserie machine, which was custom made for the shop.

“We wanted to wait a little longer…until everything was right,” said Ellen, the manager.

That’s too bad, with a name like “Nature’s Taste” and “Fresh from our Farm” I would have hoped for a veggie-centric place.

Owners are super nice. Gave me samples of gyro chicken and pork meat. Delicious! Also gave me chunk of smoked ribs to try at home. The ground meat is grass finished and costs less than what I pay at the local health food store for grain finished organic. The price of the bacon is also comparable to (if not less than) the Applegate or D’Artagnan brands. I also bought smoked spicy beef sausage which I just tasted and love! They are still stocking though. More products to come. So happy to welcome them to the neighborhood!
