The owners of a popular Astoria gastropub are branching out.
The owners of Sweet Afton, located at 30-09 34th Street will be opening a second bar, The Bonnie, located at 29-12 23rd Ave, in October.
The Bonnie will be similar to Sweet Afton, said owner Michael Krawiec, just with a wider selection. However, he did not want to reveal too much since the menu is currently being designed and he doesn’t want to make an announcement until everything is official.
The Bonnie will be slightly larger than Sweet Afton, featuring two bars, with seating for roughly 80 people inside. In the summer months, Krawiec said he will be able to open up the garden out back, which can seat roughly 50 people. He plans on opening the garden next spring.
The space was originally a “turn of the century garage,” according to Krawiec, who is aiming to retain the industrial character of the building—but with all the traditional Irish pub traits. He said there will be more steel and glass at The Bonnie, and while it is in the same family as Sweet Afton, it will have its own unique feel.
Krawiec is excited to be opening in Ditmars.
“We always loved the Ditmars atmosphere,” Krawiec said. “Even though it’s Astoria, it’s has a whole different vibe than 30th Ave. and we feel that there is room over there for another solid bar and restaurant.”
