Belief, the skateboard store, to relocate to 29th Street

Belief has closed down this location

Belief has left this location as it reopens nearby

An Astoria skateboard shop is on the move.

Belief skate shop, which recently closed its 29-20 23rd Avenue location, is moving two blocks away to 24-01 29th Street. It plans to open its new space toward the end of September.

The owners relocated to the new store in pursuit of a more affordable space—as their lease had come to an end.

Raffie Gordon, a co-owner, said that they were very fortunate in finding the new space—since the new location is closer to the Astoria Blvd subway station than their old store and the rent is affordable.

“Being close to the subway is big because that’s where people get off to go to Hoyt Park and the skate park at Astoria Park,” he said.

The new location will not change how the business operates. Belief will continue to sell skate boards, accessories, sneakers and clothing.

Gordon said that ‘Belief’ recently launched its own clothing brand.

“We are focused on building our brand in this store,” he said.

Gordon said he and co-owners Phil Gordon and Jimmy Collins were determined to keep the business in Astoria when their leased ended.

“We wanted to stay as close to our old location as possible,” he said. “We want to keep our customers.”

All three owners live within walking distance to the store.

Collins was the first to move to Astoria, prior to opening the business. The trio noticed a need for a skate shop in the neighborhood.

“Astoria didn’t have a skate shop, so people had to go to Manhattan or Brooklyn to buy supplies,” Raffie Gordon said. “We knew skateboarders lived here, but there was no shop where they could go.”
