Caffe Bene set to open its two Astoria stores next month, spokesman says

Ditmars

30-31 Ditmars Blvd

Aug. 15, 2014 By Michael Florio

The big boys are about to move in.

In recent weeks, several independent coffee shops have opened in Astoria—from 60 Beans to OK Café.

Now it’s time for the multinationals to get in on the action.

Next month Caffe Bene, the Korean coffee giant with 1,400 cafes across the globe, will be opening its doors to two branches.

The company, in a statement, said it will be opening its 32-14 Steinway Street and its 30-31 Ditmars Blvd locations in September.

The Steinway location will be 1,960 square feet, while the Ditmars location will be slightly smaller, at 1,770 square feet.

The two openings come at a time when Caffe Bene is looking to promote a wider selection of Korean food and drink. The company is currently marketing its Misugaru Latte, a five-grain health drink that is extremely popular in Korea and has sold well in the US.

The cafe will also be promoting Korean food items such its gochujang sandwich and kimchee baguette.

The two Astoria cafes, like all Caffe Bene franchises, will, however, sell conventional items such as brewed coffee, hot and cold beverages, pastries, croissants, sandwiches, waffles, gelato, and so forth.

Caffe Bene has opened several cafes in New York and New Jersey since it entered the US market in 2012. The franchises are located in Times Square, Flushing, Fashion Institute of Technology, Fort Lee, NJ, and Palisades Park, NJ.

A Sunnyside location opened in May.

Caffe Bene opens in Astoria as Starbucks continues to expand. Starbucks opened its fifth Astoria location at 30-18 Astoria Blvd last month.

Forget this place. Not another multinational in the neighborhood. Give your money to local entrepreneurs, particularly the people who know about good coffee and food.

Patronize ok cafe – support individual entrepreneurship, not multinational, corporate chains! Keep Astoria vibrant and human!
