On Thursday, June 27, fireworks will light up the Astoria waterfront to mark the 40th anniversary of the neighborhood’s Independence Day celebration.

Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Astoria community, organizes the free event. The area’s City Council Member, Tiffany Cabán, provides funding in partnership with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the country’s largest municipal funder of cultural events.

Hundreds of residents and those traveling from the surrounding areas are expected to fill the waterfront lawn on Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and Astoria Pool.

The event will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday with a performance by “Fleur Seule,” a jazz and swing band said to bring the audience back to the 1940s. The night will end with a spectacular fireworks display by Grucci.

“The Central Astoria Independence Day Celebration on the waterfront of beautiful Astoria Park brings thousands of people from every corner of the world to our amazing neighborhood, united to celebrate the Independence Day of our great country,” said Marie Torniali, Executive Director of the Central Astoria LDC. “Many thanks to Council Member Tiffany Cabán for her tremendous support of this great community event.”

The event will also jump-start the 2024 Summer Concert Series and Summer Movie Series, also organized by Central Astoria LDC.

It used to be years ago a wonderful event now the people that come do not respect the neighborhood or the residents in the neighborhood they leave their trash double Park and block driveways Astoria Parker’s too small of a park to accommodate the number of people that show up and we have no proper enforcement maybe Fun For The Outsiders but it’s pure hell for the residents
