Detectives from the 114th Precinct are searching for a gunman who opened fire inside a commercial establishment in Dutch Kills on Saturday, June 1, leaving one man injured.
The incident occurred at a convenience store a block away from the Dutch Kills Playground when the perpetrator entered a store near 29th Street and 36th Avenue, at around 3:30 p.m. and could be seen on surveillance video reaching into a black bag.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking a 35-year-old man in the buttocks. The gunman fled on foot eastbound on 36th Avenue towards Northern Boulevard. EMS responded to the crime scene and rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said. The assailant remains at large more than a week later.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect on Friday and described him as having a light complexion, approximately 5’8” tall, with a slim build. He wore a red Nike hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, a black mask and white and black sneakers.

Through June 2, the 114th Precinct has reported 233 felony assaults so far in 2024, 33 more than the 200 reported at the same point last year, an increase of 16.5%, according to the most recent CompStat report.
