Jackson Heights Man Dead After Being Struck by Car Two Blocks From His Home

A Jackson Heights man was fatally struck by a motorist on 32nd Avenue Tuesday while crossing the street two blocks from where he lived (GMaps)

A Jackson Heights man is dead after being struck by a motorist while crossing the street two blocks away from where he lived.

Arfath Dewan, 32, was hit by a driver of a 2021 Mazda 6 at around 9:10 p.m. in the vicinity of 32nd Avenue and 79th Street within the confines of the 115th Precinct. EMS responded to the scene, and Dewan was transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Dewan was struck while crossing 32nd Avenue from south to the north and was outside the crosswalk. The motorist, a 19-year-old male, was traveling westbound on 32nd Avenue and struck Dewan after going through the intersection at 79th Street with the traffic signal.

The vehicle hit Dewan, who lived on 79th Street, knocking him to the pavement causing head trauma.

The driver remained at the scene and was not injured. There have been no arrests.

East Elmhurst man busted for a fatal collision in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on the 4th of July: NYPD

A Queens grand jury indicted an East Elmhurst man in connection to a July 4th fatal collision at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Yersson Diaz, 27, of Ericsson Street just south of LaGuardia Airport, appeared at Queens Criminal Court for a summons on Tuesday and was taken into custody, according to an NYPD spokeswoman. He was booked Tuesday afternoon at the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst, where he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
