The police are looking for a man who stole a backpack—that contained a handgun—from a customer who accidentally left the bag at a pizzeria in Astoria last week.

The suspect swiped the bag from inside Krave It Pizza & Sandwich Joint, located at 36-18 30 Ave., on Thursday after it was left unattended, according to police.

The owner of the backpack, a 28-year-old man, had been dining inside the eatery at around 1 p.m. and placed the bag underneath a table. It contained a legally possessed firearm, police said.

Shortly afterward, the owner of the backpack got up and left the establishment but forgot to take the bag with him, police said.

When he realized he didn’t have the backpack, he returned to the pizzeria only to discover the item was gone.

The NYPD released a photo of the man they believe stole the bag. The suspect is seen wearing a white T-shirt, a black hat, gray shorts and white sneakers.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/

Unbelievable

You’re telling me this guy is a Responsible Gun Owner? This is what happens when you let any knuckle dragging moron with a pulse carry a gun around, no questions asked. He should never be allowed to buy, own or carry a gun again. Period. Don’t care if he’s a cop, ex-cop, military, the governor’s kid, or Dirty Harry – you “forget” your gun, you’re not a responsible person. End of discussion.

I’ll put it in crayon for the gun nuts out there: you forget your shooty shooty bang bang toy somewhere, no more shooty shooty bang bang toy for you.

Another Responsible Gun Owner! Why is this jerk allowed to even own a gun, much less carry a gun in public? Freedumb, that’s why! Listen, if you have a gun and “forget” it, no more guns for you. Period. End of discussion. Doesn’t matter if you’re a cop, a former cop, the governor’s kid, John friggin’ Rambo – you forgot your gun, you’re not responsible, no more shooty shooty bang bang toys for you.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
