Sept. 14, 2021 By Michael Dorgan

Police have released a shocking video of a mugger brazenly hit a 77-year-old woman in Astoria on Sunday – while robbing the senior of her handbag that contained a bible and cash.

The unsettling footage, captured on a cellphone by a passerby at around noon, shows the pair tussle over her bag in front of a discount store at 21-12 36th Ave.

The crook tries to take off with the bag as the 77-year-old clutches onto it with both hands in what essentially becomes a tug-of-war. The mugger then slaps the senior in the face and takes off with the bag.

The suspect fled the scene on foot into the Ravenswood Houses NYCHA development, police said.

The elderly woman suffered cuts to her hands and was evaluated by EMS at the scene but she refused further medical attention, police said.

The woman’s purse contained a watch, $30 cash and a bible, police said.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of this individual is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/ or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

All calls are strictly confidential.

The force is definitely NOT strong in this one. (That 77 year old woman held her own against the Death Star right there. Good for you, Princess Leia!)

Looks like a very distinctive outfit: lives in the Ravenswood housing complex, white glasses frame and a prominent ‘Star Wars’ hoodie with images of Darth Vader all over it…

He needs a good spanking with a light sabre.

Anyone know if this tuscan raider been found yet?

Such a brave young man. Probably wants to participate in Bible studies, that’s why he borrowed the bag.
Shouldn’t be hard to find him, his facial features and general appearance are quite clear

Apparently people are too afraid to be called “racist” as per the comment down below. So why would anyone help in this day and age. There is no respect for anyone, not even the authority. People just don’t give a hoot. Had something worse happened to this elderly woman, how many people would continue to keep walking or just pull out their phones and post the suffering on social media, anything for views, how many would actually help… clearly no one, this shows it. When you need help one day, or collapse on the street, or whatever, don’t expect the help. Maybe you’ll be lucky and one good citizen may check on you… people suck

It is so sad that this is happening. There’s no respect for the elderly nor anyone since there are no consequences. It seems that this young gentleman has been subjected to do as you want whenever you want because you can. I hope that he treats his own family better than what he did with this woman. It could happen to his own grandmother.

Sooo the idiot that was recording the whole thing on their cell phone couldn’t be a good citizen and help her out… disgusting

Help her out and get called racist??? All the politicians and the people who voted for them have innocent victims’ bloods on their hands. Shootings, stabbings, muggings are happening everywhere without repercussions… People drive paper-plate cars, no-plate dirt bikes, scooters like maniacs and kill and injure pedestrians on the sidewalks.. again no repercussions… It’s free for all.. Crime pays.. What do you expect…
