Man Broke Into Astoria Apartment Building and Stole Multiple Packages: Police

A man broke into an Astoria apartment building last month and snatched several packages from the lobby that were worth hundreds of dollars.

The man allegedly used a screwdriver to disable the front door lock of a building near 36th Avenue and 31st Street at 4 a.m. on Nov. 30, police said.

He grabbed numerous packages that were delivered to the building lobby and took off on a bicycle northbound down 31st Street.

The value of the packages totaled more than $430, police said.

The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion, a close-cut shaved hair and a beard. He is approximately 6 foot 1 and weighs 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket, dark blue jeans and gray sneakers, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect on Friday.

Astoria doctor sentenced to more than two decades in prison for rape and sexual abuse: DA

An Astoria doctor was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday in Queens Supreme Court for raping unconscious acquaintances and sexually abusing hospital patients.

Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, 35, of Broadway, pleaded guilty on June 30 to four counts of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree in satisfaction of the consolidated indictments against him. He additionally entered an Alford plea to one count of sexual abuse. The defendant — a former gastroenterologist at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital — recorded the abuse of his unconscious victims with his cell phone in both his Astoria apartment and at the hospital.
