Sep. 14, 2020 By Michael Dorgan

Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to rob a 39-year-old man at gunpoint near the Astoria Houses NYCHA complex last month.

The alleged assailant approached the victim on foot outside 8-51 Astoria Blvd. and pulled out a handgun and demanded money at around 10 p.m. on Aug. 30, according to police.

The victim claimed that he didn’t have any cash and the would-be robber then fled the scene, police said.

Cops said that no property was stolen, no shots were fired and the victim was not injured during the incident.

Police released video footage of the suspect wanted for questioning.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

I used to take visitors to show them the murals and graffiti around here. Drug dealers bother passers right in front of the deli by the Q19 bus stop down the black whee this happened. All the remaining businesses are leaving the area. Not surprised that muggings keep happening. I feel bad for the families trying to raise kids.

Almost every story posted here and every story in the newspapers shows somebody who’s black committing a crime. Black lives matter? Nope! What gets me angry, as a native New Yorker, is why aren’t people protesting that there is more crime against blacks without guns by blacks with guns? There is more crime committed that way than by cops. When are the people in office going to find out where these guns are coming from? I’m betting it’s from the people who live in NY but drive with license plates from NC, SC, FL, GA, a lot of NJ plates for people who live in Queens, IL and even CA and Ontario. Why aren’t people incensed about a 1 year old and a 6 year old being killed/injured by a bullet?
