Cyclist Struck and Killed By MTA Bus in Woodside: NYPD

A 50-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a MTA bus in Woodside Wednesday night.

The man was riding his bicycle westbound on 31st Avenue when he ran a red light at the intersection with 51st Street and was hit by a Q18 bus around 11:23 p.m., police said.

The bus was heading southbound on 51st Street when the driver struck the cyclist, who was dragged by the bus for a block, until he was dislodged at 32nd Avenue. Responding officers found the man lying on the roadway with severe trauma to his body, police said.

The 50-year-old was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital – Queens, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not yet released, as officers work to notify his family members.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, according to the police.

Feel sad for the victims family but…

Many, if not most, cyclists and delivery people totally ignore traffic rules. They blow through red lights and stop signs without even looking. The more bikes and motorized scooters out there, the more we will read similar stories.

I also truly feel sorry for the driver of the bus who will be living this nightmare for the rest of their life!

Astoria doctor sentenced to more than two decades in prison for rape and sexual abuse: DA

An Astoria doctor was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday in Queens Supreme Court for raping unconscious acquaintances and sexually abusing hospital patients.

Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, 35, of Broadway, pleaded guilty on June 30 to four counts of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree in satisfaction of the consolidated indictments against him. He additionally entered an Alford plea to one count of sexual abuse. The defendant — a former gastroenterologist at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital — recorded the abuse of his unconscious victims with his cell phone in both his Astoria apartment and at the hospital.
