A man was shot while driving his car in Astoria early Monday after another vehicle pulled up alongside him and a gunman opened fire.

The victim, 32, had just left Rose Hookah Lounge on Steinway Street when he was shot as he was approaching the entrance of the Grand Central Parkway at around 3:30 a.m., according to police.

Police said the suspect fired multiple shots from his unidentified vehicle, with the victim hit once in the back.

The man was transferred to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull by private means and is expected to survive, police said.

It is unclear whether the victim was followed from the Rose Hookah Lounge or not, police said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

We would have better police protection if we had a BLM mural on Steinway. I know my car has not been broken into ever since my daughter added the bumper sticker. I ordered one for the front door also.

Why is the bar allowed to be open at 3 in the morning? Old saying: nothing good happens after midnight.

That part of Steinway Street has been bad news for at least the past 5 years. Especially strange since it is only about 60 seconds from the police precinct.

All major avenues in Astoria are over crowded with people not social distancing and unsafe. The other day a man was randomly punching people in the face on 30th Ave. Not every occurrence makes the news and our local officials do not make statements about it unless it involves bike lanes or considered a possible hate crime. I saw people not wearing masks in supermarkets and pharmacies and workers are not saying anything.

Thanks to incompetent democratic politicians who praise criminals over policemen/policewomen, the crooks are going after their long sought revenge over their enemies by shooting them on our streets. Also thanks to the folks who voted for them. It’s going to get worse to a point where we will hesitate going out with our families.

A Brooklyn man was indicted by a Queens grand jury on charges of manslaughter, drunk driving and other crimes for a fatal collision in Astoria that killed his long-time girlfriend and mother of their young child in February.

Ray Perez, 27, of Caton Avenue in Flatbush, was arraigned Thursday in Queens Supreme Court on a 13-count indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter for allegedly speeding through a stop sign in Astoria, colliding with another vehicle and slamming into two parked cars, and then driving nearly four miles away to a street in Maspeth before seeking help for his 29-year-old girlfriend Bridget Enriquez, who later succumbed to her injuries.
