Suspect Wanted for Stealing E-Bike and Punching Shop Worker in Astoria: NYPD

(NYPD and Google Maps)

July 14, 2020 By Michael Dorgan

Police are searching for a man who stole an electric bicycle from an e-bike store in Astoria earlier this month and punched an employee who tried to stop him.

Police said the suspect entered Fly E-Bike, located at 33-06 28 Ave., on July 1 at around 12:30 p.m. before getting on an e-bike and riding it out of the store.

The worker, a 30-year-old man, chased after the suspect and managed to catch up with him. The pair engaged in a brief scuffle before the suspect punched the employee in the face, according to police.

The suspect then fled on the e-bike in a southbound direction along 33rd Street, police said.

Police describe the thief as being between 16 and 20 years of age. He was last seen wearing a mask over his face, a black hooded sweater, black and gray sweatpants and white sneakers. He was also wearing a black backpack.

Video footage and a photo of the suspect have been released.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

Astoria is sliding down as fast as other parts of NYC. Progressivism shouldn’t be promoting criminalism. The green new deal doesn’t mean dealing “greens” at the parks and smoking in front of kids. Zoo York loading… Good luck with raising a family! Ohh wait.. For some folks family feels like an oppressive thing anyways. So shouldn’t be an issue.

Any comment from Costa, AOC, or Gianaris? Was the perp one of the downtrodden and oppressed? A victim of systemic racism? Or was the perp one of their voters?

Pat: It’s a simple bike theft. People can’t be commenting on everything you read or see in TV. How self obsessed are you? You’re way more than narcissistic.,Be quite honest you’re just not that important.

How obsessed are you with me? You must be a Democrat-the party that embraces lawlessness like this. When is it ever acceptable for hard working people to be assaulted when on the job? Oh right if you work for the NYPD you can be beaten by a mob and it’s celebrated by the marxists. So why would a hard working salesperson’s safety matter to you? What about the community this crime happened in? 12:30 in the afternoon robbery is acceptable? I

AOC thinks poverty is the reason for the crime spike. So government should provide an e-bike to everybody. This perp rode a fixie bike to steal an e-bike. Poor perp needed an upgrade so bad. Let’s wait for him to do an armed robbery to upgrade to a nice car. PS: Why anybody would pay for it when you can punch your way through it to get it for free and be let go when you get caught.
