Two women allegedly robbed an elderly woman inside an apartment building elevator in Astoria yesterday.
The suspects went inside a building near 31st Drive and 21st Street at around 5:30 p.m. and then followed an 89-year-old woman onto an elevator, police said.
Inside the elevator, the women took the senior’s purse with $200 in cash, five checks and a MetroCard inside, according to the NYPD. The women then exited the elevator on the sixth floor and fled.
Police have released CCTV footage of the suspects.
Both women are between 18 and 26 years old, according to police.
One of the suspects is described as being about 5 feet 3 inches tall with a thin build and black hair. She was last seen wearing a black bubble jacket and red and white Jordan sneakers.
The other woman is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and was last seen wearing a blue jacket, gray sweatpants and blue sneakers, police said.

Looks like there is a doorman sitting by the desk in the first two to three seconds of the video. I guess they did not want to be accused of anything and fired for stopping the suspects as they entered and asking them if they lived there or visiting.
Hopefully this crime and the many others we read or hear about will convince my mother in law to come live with us on Long Island. My husband is so worried about her living alone and feels that Astoria is no longer a place for the elderly or children. She is always complaining to him about the crimes taking place, noise at night from the bars and restaurants, being honked at by cars while trying to cross the street, bicyclists and scooters swirling around her, rude pedistrains, the smell of weed, sewer smells in the summer and her house taxes always going up. Yet she stays because she thinks it will get better and likes Astoria park for her dogs. I hope she moves in with us this spring because we could really use the rental income. A realtor told me last year we could get close to three thousand if we include the garage!
So this is about renting out the apartment ?
You sound like you are after the rental income, not interested in your mother-in-law’s safety or the neighborhood. Shame on you!
i agreed until you said the smell of weed now your just taking it too far and complaining about nonsense. Cannabis shouldn’t be stigmatized because not everyone that uses it is a bad person and they were wrong for doing that but Astoria isn’t a bad place because of the smell of cannabis its a bad place because corrupt politicians and greedy millionaires don’t know how to do there jobs or have sympathy for the people who are struggling in life.
Thankfully no one was hurt. Hopefully these young female suspects will get the help and support they need to stay out of trouble if charged and found guilty. We as a society need to set programs that help encourage our youth to develop occupational skills and to resolve psychological problems such as substance abuse or aggression ultimately preventing crime from happening.
Their parents need to teach and encourage them to be good law abiding citizens.
They are going to get movie tickets if they get caught and show up for the court!
Help and support? Who helped and supported this woman who is another innocent victim of people who were never taught respect for the elderly? Just a thought – they were from Queensbridge?
