Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer today received a new celebrity endorsement for his run to be the next Queens Borough President.

Actor Kal Penn—who recently starred in NBC’s “Sunnyside”—endorsed Van Bramer on Monday. Penn played Garrett Modi in the show—a disgraced former council member who is hired by immigrants to help them navigate their path to citizenship.

Van Bramer and Penn will be canvassing for signatures in Sunnyside Monday evening. They will be meeting with volunteers at Sanger Hall—at 48-20 Skillman Ave.—around 5 p.m. before heading out to meet nearby residents.

All candidates need 2,000 valid signatures by Jan. 14 to get on the ballot.

Van Bramer was endorsed last month by former gubernatorial candidate and “Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon.

Van Bramer was also endorsed by public advocate Jumaane Williams last week.

“Jimmy Van Bramer is a progressive champion who will fight for a Queens for all,” Williams said in a statement Friday. “Jimmy has shown courage time and again to do what’s right.”

The special election is scheduled for March 24. Former Queens Borough President Melinda Katz vacated the office on Jan. 1 to be the Queens District Attorney.

Others vying for borough president include Council Members Costa Constantinides and Donovan Richards; former Council Member Elizabeth Crowley; and law enforcement reform advocate Anthony Miranda.

When Kal Penn lives in my district I will give a $&ck what he thinks. JVB office does not return emails from constituents who get injured at events lile the socrates sculpture park screening series that has his name branded all over it. It took his office three months to get back to me and only after I threatened them. Dont hold a nightime Screening in an unlit sculpture park and act all surprised when someone trips over a low wire fence bordering a sculpture and gets injured. In my book, he is also already a diblasio hackjob bureaucrat

Let’s see the dumb people who would vote for a candidate because they like an actor and trust his instincts. Democracy loading…

JVB is a publicity whore to the max. An ineffective leader and political hack who wants to bask in faux celebrity praise. Vying for the nice paycheck in a do nothing powerless office.

I prefer we recall AOC and have her gain much needed experience as borough president. Oh wait, we want businesses to COME to Queens, not FLEE Queens. Nevermind!

Because your statement against him a vague and full of opinions with no real substance, why do you not like him any specific policy? No! So who do you like and why? But if it’s non of my (or this communities) business maybe you should keep your opinions with no substance on this person to yourself.
