Chipotle Mexican Grill will be opening its first Astoria restaurant next week, the company has confirmed.

The fast-casual restaurant chain, which specializes in burritos and tacos, will open at 31-73 Steinway St. on Wednesday Aug. 28, in the space that was previously occupied by Payless Shoes.

A spokesperson for the company said that the first 50 customers will receive Chipotle swag.

Chipotle operates several locations in Queens, including at 26-16 Jackson Ave. in Long Island City and 87-10 Northern Blvd. in Jackson Heights.

The company operates about 2,250 locations in the United States, according to Reuters.
Despite Chipotle’s popularity, the restaurant has been beleaguered in recent years by outbreaks of food-borne illnesses, including salmonella and E. coli.

Chipotle announced last August that it was opening on Steinway Street.

What’s wrong with you people?? I’ve been waiting for this Chipotle store to open and went there today as I read here it would be opening today and the the first 50 customers will receive Chipotle swag, which it was totally wrong… Went there with my roommate and there’s no warning or an apology: the doors were closed and there are still construction material inside. Very disappointed…

How soon before food wrappers are dumped in the street or on the sidewalk or on somebody’s front lawn? That applies to all fast food places.

As if the smell of weed was not enough around here now we will have a bunch of people walking around with bad “flatulence.”
