Police Searching For Man Who Stole $136,000 From Astoria Check Cashing Store

Suspect (NYPD)

July 11, Staff Report

The police are looking for a man who robbed nearly $140,000 from a check cashing store in Astoria by pretending he had a gun pointed at an employee.

The 24-year female employee of David’s Check Cashing at 23-05 31 St., was walking along 31 St. at around 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5, when the male suspect approached her from behind.

The man simulated that he had a firearm against her back and forced her to open the establishment.

Once inside, the man pushed the employee to the ground and took $136,000 from the safe, before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of this male is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

Not to worry! The new luxury developments being built a block away will have much better surveillance video to help catch criminals in the area.
