A popular Astoria bagel shop and café will be opening its fourth Astoria location at the end of April.
New York City Bagel & Coffee, owned by two Astoria natives, will soon have a new spot at 29-10 Broadway. The shop will be their biggest so far, with enough room to seat 60 to 65 people.
Michael Lagudis and John Loukas opened their first shop in 2012 at 29-08 23rd Ave. After early success, the pair opened a second location in 2015 at 40-05 Broadway and a third in 2017 at 33-10 30th Ave.
Lagudis said they opened the fourth Astoria bagel shop so they could have a presence in most of Astoria.
“We’ve covered all four corners of Astoria now so we’re within walking distance of most people in Astoria,” said Lagudis, who also said they hope to eventually open locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Currently, the duo don’t operate outside of the neighborhood.
Their latest shop will offer the same menu as their other three locations, all of which prepare the food on site. However, it will be only the second location to serve beer– the other being on 30th Avenue.
They will serve beer on tap including the Montauk IPA, Five Boroughs Pilsner, Harpoon Hard Cider, and Founder’s Premium Lager. Beer, like the 30th Avenue location, will be available from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
The pair have also applied for outdoor seating at the new location which will add another 12 tables and 24 chairs.
The menu will be like the other three stores. It features New York style bagels made onsite; baked goods such as banana pound cake, pistachio pound cake and apple crumb cake; items such as quiches and spinach and cheese pies; and other breakfast items including egg sandwiches, pancakes and waffles.
The shop will offer 50 different kinds of homemade cream cheese including baked salmon, blueberry, wasabi, tofu, and roasted red pepper and parmigiano made everyday on site.
A new batch of bagels will come out of the oven every 15 to 20 minutes from 3:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lagudis said.
The new shop, described by Lagudis as rustic industrial, will also specialize in coffee and espresso drinks which are sourced from For Five Coffee Roasters, based in Maspeth.
Other beverages offered include a variety of fruit smoothies, hot and iced teas, and frozen frappes.
The new location will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Another store hopefully the beatnik hippie losers wont make that a permanent hangout that will attract unhygienic people and bed bugs from them nursing a coffee for five hours and creating an unsanitary condition. Hey Mike and john I spend about 150 bucks a month in your store. Tell them worms the stools and seats are not to be monopolized as an all day thing .
Bagels are tasteless, we got a bunch for the office and the ongoing joke now is that I’m no longer from brooklyn because I purchased garbage bagels for everyone
Please open store in Bayside soon!!!
I just had a bagel from the one on 30th ave and 33rd street the other day and I have to say it was not good. Tasted like a store bought bagel from a package. Nothing made me think it was a bagel cooked on premise. I’ll stick to old school bagel joints
These are the best bagels I’ve ever had. I live near the original one and it’s still my go-to place on weekends and a must for guests in from out of town. Everything is incredible and the service is fast and friendly.
Come to Woodside.
This place is dope, owners are bona fide stars
The bagels here made me barf
Best bagel shop atmosphere in all of NYC. Great service. Not the best bagels but decent.
Unfortunately I can’t eat atmosphere. Their bagels aren’t good.
Bagels suck and the locations resemble Greek retirement homes with old Greek men nursing one cup of coffee while gossipping amongst themselves. They leer at the young women making them uncomfortable. Factor in the young folks who park themselves with their laptops updating their profiles. Uncomfortable chairs. Terrible bagels-big blobs of dough that are tasteless
Too bad the bagels suck…any true ny’er knows a good bagel vs a roll with a hole.
“Come to Sunnyside” ??
I think the owners read the divisive comments from Sunnyside Post resident/readers and say: hard pass.
not enough low class Greeks in Sunnyside to occupy the tables giving the impression that the bagels and coffee are good. Illegals don’t like bagels either. They prefer churros
second place, Most Racist comment of the post. Keep trying!
The reason they wont come to Woodside is that too many Hispanics.. Think about it how many spanish people do you know eat bagels !!! A nice butcher place opened up on that block on Rosevelt Ave and close within 6months cos the hispanics didnt shop there . They only shop if owners are their kind…
So Stephanie, maybe we can go to Broadway and buy you a bagel cos we wont find it here in Woodside.
Most Racist comment of the post. Congrats!
Both Woodside and Sunnyside could do with a solid bagel place.
Then you don’t want this place. Bad bagels.
We could use a GOOD bagel place here in Woodside
near 53 St & Roosevelt Ave…
I really hope you consider this location as we have nothing but stupid looking bodegas that look old & creepy
Come to Woodside/Sunnyside Badly needed
COME TO SUNNYSIDE!
I came here to say the same thing……please come to Sunnyside!!!!
Now please start delivering ?
Nice, it’s about time. Seems like is taking forever for those stores to open on that block. I wonder if the Food Emporium is going to open at the end of April as well and if it is going to be managed by the same people who ran C-Town like I recall they said it would when they were closing. That’s going to be one busy spot.
Another? Expand outward … are bagel shops the old FroYo??
