An off-duty police officer from the 114th Precinct saved the life of a badly injured motorcyclist who had been struck by a tractor trailer on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway earlier this month.

Officer Mandeep Kaur was driving to work on Feb. 6 when she spotted a 30-year-old female motorcyclist lying on the shoulder of the BQE—near exit 43 in Woodside– at around 6:55 a.m., according to police.

Kaur pulled over to help and noticed the motorcyclist was bleeding from her left arm. She helped the victim take off her leather jacket and discovered the woman was bleeding profusely.

Police say Kaur stopped the woman from losing more blood by tying a tourniquet around her arm and elevating the arm above the victim’s shoulder. EMS then arrived and took the victim to an area hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

The medical examiner, in a tweet, said the quick action taken to stop the blood flow by Kaur most likely saved the woman’s life.

The victim, who was reportedly traveling to work at a Con Ed plant in Astoria, had been struck by a hit and run driver, according to police. The driver of the tractor trailer has not been apprehended and the investigation is ongoing.
