Astoria Man Charged With Criminally Negligent Homicide After Killing Motorcyclist in Collision

A 53-year-old Astoria man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after mowing down a motorcyclist with his car in Manhattan Wednesday night, police said.

Ayman Zarik, who lives on 31st Road, was traveling southbound on Ft. Washington Avenue at around 9:15 p.m. when his 2009 Lincoln sedan struck the victim who was riding eastbound on West 178th Street.

Police were called to the crash and discovered the 40-year-old victim unconscious and unresponsive with severe body trauma. EMS transported him to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim is identified as Manuel Hernandez of Manhattan.

Zarik remained on the scene but was later charged. The investigation remains ongoing.
