Thief Steals Packages Containing $230,000 Worth of Jewelry in LIC

Police have released video footage of a man who stole packages containing $230,000 worth of jewelry from a Long Island City apartment building.

Police say that the man went inside the lobby of a residential building near Crescent Street and 41st Avenue at around 10 a.m. on Aug. 14. The man grabbed two packages containing the jewelry and walked off in an unknown direction.

When the 26-year-old victim returned home to pick up his packages, he realized that they were gone and called the police. 

Police describe the suspect as Hispanic, and between 20 and 30 years old. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, blue shorts and black shoes.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

It’s a shame in this day and age that ridiculously expensive condos are using ancient old 240p security cameras. I see you’re moneys well spent living in these shmancy apartments.

I’ve had to sign for a $100 jacket. Why would you ship this without a signature? Sounds odd.

There’s something rotten in the state of Denmark. Who would ship a quarter million dollars worth of jewelry in this fashion? Sounds like an insurance scam to me.

It’s almost that time of year again. For something of such high value, those packages should’ve been signed for, not just dropped off. Anyway, that sucks.

Never mind signatures, deliverymen are the new paperboys – throw mail and packages aimlessly at the curb, into the garbage cans, even at addresses that weren’t expecting packages, and call it a day.

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
