A race billed as “NYC’s Sweetest 5K” will return to Astoria Park on Oct. 13.

Runners during the 6th annual NYC Cupcake Run will attempt to race 3.1 miles (twice around Astoria Park) and gobble down three cupcakes along the way.

A portion of the proceeds will go to volunteer management nonprofit NYC Cares, according to a statement from race organizer and entrepreneur Jason Feirman, who also runs the annual NYC Pizza Run in Brooklyn. About 10 percent of ticket sales will be donated depending on the cost of expenses from the race, Feirman said.

Rain or shine, about 150 runners will gather at Ditmars Boulevard between 19th Street and Shore Boulevard. Check-in will begin at 10:15 a.m., and runners are expected to sign in by 10:45 a.m.

The race will start at 11:00 a.m.

Each runner is expected to stop at three stations and eat a cupcake, which will be provided by Manhattan-based bakery Butter Lane. The first cupcake halfway through the first lap, the second at the end of the first lap, and the final cupcake comes halfway through the second lap.

Fortunately for runners, the cupcakes are reasonably sized— “a little smaller than your fist”—  and can be eaten in two to three bites, according to Feirman.

After the race, prizes will be handed out for the fastest times.

Regardless of your time, all runners are invited to gather after the race for an afterparty at Rocky McBrides at 27-01 23rd Ave. Runners will receive a free drink and drink specials, and all participants will be given lunch.

All runners must register for the race, as no walkups are permitted. Tickets are $45 before Sept. 30 and $60 from then on. Participants will receive an official race bib, an NYC Cupcake Run t-shirt, three cupcakes (to be consumed during the race) and a cupcake gift bag.
