The Queens Craft Brigade will celebrate its one-year anniversary this Sunday with its biggest market yet.

The market will feature more than 20 vendors from across Queens selling artwork, food, jewelry, clothing and other goods. A special section will also offer books and self-published works by residents of the borough.

The event was founded last year by Robert Duffy, who runs a T-shirt company called Unified Queens.

Duffy believes that the market is a place where Queens creators can showcase their talents and reach customers.

“There are a lot of people making really interesting stuff in Queens,” Duffy said in an interview last year. “They can be your own neighbors, and you don’t even realize it. That’s why I’m really excited about this market—it’s just people from Queens.”

Sunday’s event will be held 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at VFW Post 2348 at 31-35 41st St.

The market will feature a wide variety of goods made in Astoria, including jewelry by Kelly Perry; handmade goods by Key & Arrow Leather; and decorative wood decor by The Salvaged Sawhorse.

Several vendors will offer baked goods, including Bench Flour Bakers and Single Girl Cookies.

Queens Craft Brigade will also host a special “Meet the Makers” event this Thursday. Five vendors who

attend the market will talk about starting a small business, social media strategies and the creative process.

The makers will also offer some of the goods they plan to sell on Sunday.

Meet the Makers will be held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Brass Owl boutique at 36-19 Ditmars Blvd.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
