Permits have been filed for a 5-story, 26 unit apartment building in Astoria.

The building will likely be constructed at 32-72 41st St. The property is currently used as a parking lot.

The building will be 50 feet tall and 18,427 square feet. The structure will feature an 18 car garage at the cellar level, plus 12 outdoor parking spaces.

Residents will have access to a roof deck, as well as a storage space and laundry room in the cellar.

The location is a little more than a block away from the Steinway Street (E/M/R) subway station. The property is also five blocks from Kaufman Astoria Studios.

The property is owned by Astoria Properties, LLC. James Cleary Architecture is responsible for the design.

How much of that will be “affordable” housing, and how much will be “luxury” housing? Probably none of the former, and all of the latter…

If you owned a nice piece of land in a good neighborhood, close to transportation and a few blocks from a movie studio, what you YOU build? Why would you build “affordable” housing? There are SO MANY people looking for upscale accommodations with amenities in western Queens. Wouldn’t YOU want to maximize the return on your investment? What is the incentive for builders to build “affordable” apartments?
