Queens Comfort to Close, Owner Indicates New Venture in Works

Queens Comfort (QueensPost)

Jan. 22, 2018 By Tara Law

Queens Comfort, a well-known Astoria restaurant, is closing.

The restaurant, which has been open at 40-09 30th Ave for seven years, announced on Instagram Sunday that it will close on Feb. 4.

The restaurant is best known for serving innovative takes on comfort food, such as chicken and waffles breaded with cornflakes, and truffle mac and cheese.

“Although it will mark the end of an era, you have certainly not seen the last of us. Please stay tuned for more details,” the posting wrote, stoking rumors that the owner, Donnie D’Alessio, plans to open another restaurant elsewhere.

Widely spread rumors online have connected Queens Comfort to a mysterious sign for a restaurant called “Peanut Butter World,” at the former location of Sugar Freak at 36-18 30th Ave. According to the sign, the new restaurant was scheduled to open this month. Queens Comfort’s connection to Peanut Butter World could not be confirmed at the time of this article.

D’Alessio also owns Flattopps, a ‘90s themed restaurant and bar at 33-06 Ditmars Boulevard.

Similarly, to Queens Comfort, Flattopps offers takes on American comfort food, such as slushies and burgers.

Hopefully this is not just some cash grab opportunity and they end up not closing. These guys are notorious for having fun while misleading the public for marketing reasons…

Over-hyped place never quite got the appeal stop going there after a date and I went there and noticed that bags of garbage was in open sight by the front door, then I noticed movement on the floor and when i looked there was a rat brazenly running around in and out or the garbage bags… got up and left and never went back.

Op-Ed | Four years after Hurricane Ida, Queens deserves real climate resilience

Sep. 2, 2025 By Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas

Four years ago, Hurricane Ida tore through our neighborhoods of East Elmhurst, Corona and Jackson Heights, leaving behind devastation we will never forget. We lost neighbors to the floodwaters. Families saw their homes destroyed, their basements wiped out, their lives upended. Immigrant families—so many of them undocumented—were hit the hardest, often excluded from relief altogether. Ida was not just a storm; it was a wake-up call.
