Astoria Market to Hold Event Targeting Valentine’s Day Shoppers

Residents will have the ability to shop for their sweethearts at a Pre-Valentine’s shopping event on Feb. 9 at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden.

The Astoria Market, which was founded in 2010 by local handmade jewelry maker Diane Modric, is organizing the event that will feature about 40 vendors from Queens and beyond, who will offer crafts, baked goods, artwork and other handmade goods. Admission is free.

The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the hall, which is located at 29-19 24th Ave.

Vendors will include gemstone jewelry maker Strung Out Jewelry; vintage jewelry purveyor Theobucket Vintage; streetwear maker Queens Thread; works from Sheila Ross Art; and craft jam maker Trade Street Jam Co.

Astoria Market has showcased artisans’ talent at Bohemian Hall on a regular basis since its founding.

Brooklyn man indicted on manslaughter, DWI charges in deadly Astoria crash that killed the mother of his child: DA

A Brooklyn man was indicted by a Queens grand jury on charges of manslaughter, drunk driving and other crimes for a fatal collision in Astoria that killed his long-time girlfriend and mother of their young child in February.

Ray Perez, 27, of Caton Avenue in Flatbush, was arraigned Thursday in Queens Supreme Court on a 13-count indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter for allegedly speeding through a stop sign in Astoria, colliding with another vehicle and slamming into two parked cars, and then driving nearly four miles away to a street in Maspeth before seeking help for his 29-year-old girlfriend Bridget Enriquez, who later succumbed to her injuries.
