Italian restaurant– featuring brick oven pizza– to open in June

May 30, 2014 By Michael Florio

A new Italian restaurant—which will feature brick-oven pizza– is opening in Astoria.

Via Vai, located at 31-09 23rd Ave, is set to open in about two weeks and will offer brick oven pizza as well as traditional Italian food, such as pasta, sausages and seafood dishes, according to owner and chef, Antonio Morichini.

Morichini will also be offering a variety of Italian wines.

Morichini said the pastas, pizza and other items will be made on the premises.

“We are going to offer something unique, something different from other Italian restaurants,” said Morichini, who will be adding “secret” ingredients to his food to put his own stamp on it. “I will make traditional Italian dishes, with my own twist,” he said.

Morichini knows Astoria well. The Italian native lived in Astoria for 10 years and his wife was raised in neighborhood.

The establishment will be an informal restaurant,” said Morichini. “We want everyone to try our food.”
