The store, the seventh to open in Queens, sells low-priced snacks, food, cleaning supplies and apparel, among other items.

The Astoria location is one of 12,500 Dollar General stores nationwide. It joins other Queens locations, such as stores in Ridgewood, Glendale, College Point and three in Jamaica.

The new Astoria store is having an official granding opening promotion on Saturday, Nov. 4, and will give the first 50 adult shoppers a $10 store gift card, with the first 200 shoppers a Dollar General tote bag filled with product samples and giveaways. The store opens at 8:00 am.

The store is expected to employ six to 10 people. There are some positions still available. Those interested are advised to go to Dollar General’s website at www.dollargeneral.com

With all the shelters near by, old timers, and homeowners and renters not able or willing to spend money too much money on snacks, food, cleaning supplies and apparel, etc. it is needed and welcomed by many. I had many people visit me from other neighborhoods who told me that the super markets and eateries are over priced in Astoria even though there a good number of them. Most families who live in Astoria and are here long term tend to flock to these more affordable stores. It is excellent for those on a budget and those looking to save.

These types of stores are so bad for undermining wage stability. Sorry to see another one open in Queens.
