Experts share tips on food nutrition at Socrates Sculpture Park Saturday

Food experts will converge on Socrates Sculpture Park this Saturday to teach the public about how to grow, sell, and eat healthy food.

Socrates, Queens Action Council (QuAC) and City Harvest will host the annual Queens Food Day from 11am to 3pm The event is free, and will take place rain or shine.

The central idea behind the festival is the concept of “food justice,” where all communities should have the right to produce and consume healthy food.

Through a variety of panels, cooking demos and activities, community organizations will share information on nutrition, food affordability and accessibility, urban farming, planting and gardening, sustainability, and healthy living.

Participants in the event include Hellgate Farm, NYC Compost Project at Big Reuse, Allergic to Salad, Smiling Hogshead Ranch, Spice Tree Organics, The Connected Chef, and DSNY Organics Collection.

Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture will also have a site-specific performance in the park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

(The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
