MOMI screening director’s cut of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ this weekend, 40th anniversary of film

The Museum of the Moving Image, located at 36-01 35th Avenue, is screening the director’s cut of Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” film this weekend in honor of its 40th Anniversary.

The museum will be showing the director’s cut of the 1977 classic in its Redstone Theater. MOMI is screening the film on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 pm; Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 pm; and on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 3 pm and 6 pm.

The movie tells the story of how an alien visitation changed the life of an ordinary man from the heartland. Tickets are $15.

Meanwhile, the museum with be screening a film about a famous Sesame Street character.

“I am Big Bird” is being played, which introduces Carroll Spinney best known as Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. Spinney joined Sesame Street in 1969 and performs to this day. The movie is recommended for ages 8 and up.

The film will be shown on both Saturday and Sunday at 12 p.m. Tickets are $15.
