One of Astoria’s two bookstores may be closing.
Enigma Bookstore, located at 33-17 Crescent Street, put out a statement on Twitter Wednesday noting that it had decided to close following a dispute with their landlord and were looking to reopen elsewhere. The landlord-tenant dispute involved who was responsible for covering the cost of ceiling damage, broken walls and other items.
Due to extensive arguments with our landlord, Enigma will have to close and relocate to another place. This may take some time.

However, today, the store posted on Facebook that it had started a Kickstarter campaign and has not decided whether to stay (and pay the disputed sums) or go.
“To move we probably need 6k, to stay substantially less. Please help us save Josh’s legacy as he calls it (probably without knowing what that means). I will update all on the Kickstarter. TY”
Enigma, opened this past July and was the first bookstore in Astoria since 2011. It caters to “geeks and nerds,” focusing on science fiction, fantasy and mystery books.
