Frank’s Bakery to close, likely to become cafe

May 20, 2014 By Michael Florio

A long time Astoria business will be closing its doors for good this weekend.

Frank’s Bakery, located at 36-02 30th Ave, will be shutting down on Saturday, after 50 years of business.

The bakery had built a strong reputation as being an old-school neighborhood Italian bakery best known for its breads and Italian cookies.

The owners decided to retire after receiving an offer for the location that they didn’t want to turn down.

“The offer was more money than we were making working, so we rather not work,” said a family member.

The new buyer, a Greek man, hopes to convert the bakery into a café.

On the door of the bakery, it reads:

To all our customers,

After more than 50 years of business, we have decided it is time to retire. We will be closing our doors on May 24th 2014.

We want to thank you for your patronage and we appreciate your good wishes.

Thank you for all,
Frank and Family

I’m Greek and I’m already sick of seeing all these cafes down 30th Avenue! I’m sick of it. Couldn’t you turn it into a mini book or record store or something? Sheesh.

They have plenty new cafes that are not getting a lot of business. ….I hope this is not another dud

Not another cafe. Especially if it is one that is Greek. No offense but we have so many Greek cafes as it is!
I will really miss Franks.

My Dad use to walk down to Frank’s to buy their pastries. He’s gone now, and now Franks will be gone too. It’s too bad. You don’t really need another cafe in that area.

Sorry to see you go, Frank and Family but 30th avenue could really use another Café. *

*If I roll my eyes any further, they will detach from their sockets.
