Thai restaurant opens on Broadway

May 16, 2014 By Michael Florio

A new Thai restaurant opened in Astoria this week.

Pye Boat Noodle Thai, located at 35-13 Broadway, will focus on simple–yet spicy–authentic Thai cuisine, according to its owner Burt Siriboon.

“It is hard to find simple Thai food these days,” Siriboon said. “Other places have got carried away, trying to change it up too much.”

Siriboon prides himself on his Thai noodles, which he says are very authentic. He said he will soon be offering Thai street food, such as skewers.

Siriboon said that many Thai restaurants have lost their way—leaving out several herbs and spices in the belief that it will appeal more to the American palate.

“I offer the food you will find in Thailand,” he said, with all the spices.

The restaurant’s signature dish, boat noodle, comes with beef or pork in broth with a variety of spices such as cinnamon and lemon grass, and vegetables.

The restaurant can seat up to 40 diners, and Siriboon hopes to open his backyard soon, which would allow him to seat another 40 more.

Siriboon knows Astoria well, having lived in the area for 3 years, prior to moving to Elmhurst seven years ago.

Siriboon owns another Thai restaurant, Osha Thai, on the Upper East Side.
