New bar/restaurant, to be called The Astorian, to replace the Old Astoria Brewhouse on 31st Street

Aug. 8, 2017 By Jason Cohen

The owners of a popular Forest Hills bar/restaurant are opening a similar establishment on 31st Street in the space formerly occupied by the Old Astoria Brewhouse.

The Old Astoria Brewhouse, located at 28-50 31st Street, closed in February, but will soon be home to a new tavern to be called The Astorian.

It will be owned by Steve Elkins, Mike Elkins, Andrew Dvorkin and Christopher Giudice, who are the proprietors of the Forest Hills Station House.

Steve Elkins said they plan to open The Astorian in the fall, but there is no set date yet.

Elkins said that they aim to provide an inviting and unpretentious atmosphere where people can chill with friends. He said their primary focus will be on craft beer and cocktails, as well as traditional pub food.

There will be a beer program that will be focused on local and craft beer, with beer menus on flat screens with real-time updates on “what’s tapping next” and how much is left in the keg.

The craft cocktail menu will be focused on fresh juices and homemade purees, and will feature ingredients from aquafaba to kombucha.

The venue will offer food such as Reuben Empanadas and Five Spice Crispy Bao Buns.

The Astorian will be two levels, with seating on the ground floor for about 80 people, including the patio area.

The second level, which will feature couches and a fireplace, has seating for about 30.

Would be nice to see what they’re offering. The Irish Whiskey Bar right next to it has nice drinks, but the company can get a little feisty, especially during Rugby season. I wouldn’t mind something there for a change.

Where have you been the last couple of years? Even the new restaurants opening up have a major bar area. Welcome to Astoria.
