Queens Council on the Arts to hold a block party in the Kaufman Arts District

May 12, 2014 By Michael Florio

Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) is hosting a block party within Astoria’s art district next month that will feature local performers and act as a fundraiser.

The QCA block party will take place on the back lot at Kaufman Astoria Studios and will look to highlight talented Queens artists and musicians.

The event will feature musicians from Make Music New York, internationally known local artists as well as participants in a poetry slam. Local restaurants will also be well represented, providing food.

The QCA is also looking to screen films and is working with local groups to find movies.

“The block party will serve as a platform for local artists, businesses, restaurants and the cultural community,” said Hoong Yee Lee Krakauer, executive director of the QCA. “It will all be there for the public to enjoy.”

Tickets cost $35 with some of the proceeds going toward a program that helps high school children develop their art skills. The program is known as the “High School to Art School Program” and also helps guide students through the art college application process.

The event will take place on June 21st starting at 4 pm. The entrance to Kaufman Astoria Studio is located on 35th Ave and 36th Street.
