July 19, 2017 Staff Report

Pesticides will be sprayed over Western Queens tomorrow in a mosquito control initiative, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

On Thursday, July 20, trucks will drive and spray through Astoria, Ditmars, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, and Elmhurst. Larvicide, a pesticide that stops mosquitos from growing into adults, and adulticides, which kills adult mosquitos, will be used.

The spraying will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The DOH applies pesticides throughout the summer to reduce the number of mosquitos and to minimize risk of illnesses such as the West Nile Virus and the Zika Virus.
