Astoria movie buffs will have the chance to watch eight movies that celebrate the diversity of the borough this summer.

Socrates Sculpture Park will kick of the 19th annual Outdoor Cinema series on July 5, a free international film festival that will show a film from a different country each week at 7 p.m. throughout July and August.

This summer’s lineup includes films from Mauritania, Greece, Sweden, Venezuela, Spain, and the USA, among others, and each film will be accompanied by food and music from the same country.

The first film in the series will be the film Timbuktu from Mauritania in Western Africa, and will be screened on July 5. The Academy Award nominated film is set in Mali and follows a family of shepherds and their encounters with radical jihadists and sharia law.

Other films in the series will include Easy Money from Sweden, Chevalier from Greece, The Silence Before Bach from Spain, and Romance and Cigarettes from the United States, among others.

All will be screened in the original language with English subtitles.
