Feb. 13, 2017 Staff Report

An elderly Astoria woman was found dead in her home after apparently being attacked by her dog early this morning, police said.

According to police, officers from the 114th Precinct responded to a 911 call at 38-07 27th Street around 1 a.m. this morning, and found 75-year-old Louise Hermida unconscious and unresponsive.

Hermida had severe trauma to her upper torso, apparently from an attack by her Mastiff, and was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her 39-year-old son was also taken to the hospital in stable condition, with trauma to his lower left leg.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause of death, and an investigation in to her death is still ongoing.
